He endured harsh conditions in exile, working in cotton fields, contracting malaria, and losing his community. After the war, the family lived in a DP camp before immigrating to the U.S. in 1950. Drafted into the U.S. Army, Sol served as a medic in postwar Germany. His life reflects extraordinary endurance—from a refugee child to an American veteran and witness to a century.
